Paint On Our Plastic Smiles

Hurting again, tears running down;
It is time that we cry no more.
No one must know what we really feel
At the deepest parts of our core.

So let's put a mask over our feelings,
No one needs to know that we're dying inside.
Lock up everything that ever mattered;
What is real is what we must hide.

No one must know that we're falling apart,
That our hearts break again each day.
No one must know that we hold onto a bit of hope;
Every little strand that comes our way.

We must be the "Great Pretender" in life;
Our job is to fool them all,
To show them the smile we put on each day.
They must never see us fall.

We can paint on our plastic smiles,
And tell them our little white lies.
We can fake our joys and laughter
As the tears threaten to fall from our eyes.

We can cover up all our wounds,
And put bandages over our hearts.
We must conceal all that's inside,
And not let them see that we're tearing apart.

For no one really cares;
In this life, we are all alone.
So hide all that's real deep within,
And your feelings will never be known

  1. insincerity they may call it
    that concerns as least
    its more conforting to smile with them
    than have them shed feigned tears
    its cool to hide our fears
    than to live with fears
    that others care the least
    about our fears
